Honouring the Victims of December 6, 1989 December 6 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada — a solemn day that traces its origins to the tragic events at Montréal’s École Polytechnique in 1989. On that day, 14 women were murdered in an act of gender-based violence that shocked the country and exposed the urgent need for change. Today, the Kingston District Labour Council joins communities across Canada in remembering the women whose lives were taken and in supporting all survivors of gender-based violence.
